Michael Backman of London kindly commented:
"This piece from Kashmir is based on a dervish's begging bowl which usually were made from a coco-de-mer half. The lower part of the silver is finely patterned with a floral and leaf design based on the coriander plant. It probably dates to around 1880 and was made for the European export market."
