The Tropical Decor Gallery exhibits furniture and decorative objects used by Europeans, aristocrats and priveledged native peoples during the final century of colonial rule, 1850-1950. Most of the pieces date from the early 20th century to WWII and include many interesting art nouveau and art deco objects imported to the region from western Europe. The furniture pieces were designed according to the prevailing European trends but made locally by skilled craftsmen using fine hardwoods and other exotic materials such as rattan and bamboo.
